On the back of the engine, where the breather sticks up. Look to the left of the breather tube and there should be a model / serial number stamped on the horizontal flat area of the engine crankcase. Also, the same model / serial number was generally stamped on both flywheels and the crankcase. The pot metal flywheel is not orignal as you mentioned. Suspect the engine is either a B&S FB or FC. There's a picture of the carb elsewhere on this site. The carbs for FB and FC engines are like gold and highly sought after. All in all a rare engine.
