I live in Indiana. Currently I
have Briggs & Stratton, Reo, engines and Lawn-Boy
mowers in my collection. I Currently do not
take anything in my collection to shows.

I collect all kinds of old things but small engines have always been
the number one. I could kick my self for all the things my father and
I junked. But I am getting in to more now and I am looking into buying a
small engine shop. I have just bought two David Bradley chain saws one
will run the other is stuck they are both complete and there
is others I am working on. Not as old as I have seen on here. I am
looking to learn a lot from this club.

While on the one hand, I have a 'collection without direction' ; conversely,
I enjoy exploring the different ways that the various manufacturers approach
each function in their engines. By having engines of several makes, ages and
styles I'm not really focused on too narrow of a definition. As a broad stroke
though, I would say that price and opportunity are the biggest factors in my
quest. As a machinist, I respect and admire the work involved in any engine.
I have a small machine shop in my garage - a 13" X 40" lathe and a Bridgeport
milling machine plus numerous smaller machines. I'm either very fortunate or
very foolish to have a hobby that is the same as what I have to do for a living!
(I lean towards fortunate...)
A list off the top of my head of my old engines would include a B&S model Y, a
model W I , (3) model 5 - S's, a model Q, and a model 23 on an old Army Signal
Corps. generator plus half a dozen or so vertical shaft B&S's. I have model B
coming soon that I just purchased. I should have it within the next few days. A
Maytag 72, (2) Reo's, a Clinton 350, (2) Lauson horizontal (1) has a Wards tag
and (4) Lauson vertical shaft engines. There are probably about (8) old 2-stroke
engines from Clinton, Jacobson and Tecumseh. I have (2) Onan generators - one
water cooled twin and one air cooled single, both from the '40s. A Sears
WaterWitch outboard motor from the '30s. A Bendix air cooled opposed twin outboard
from about the same time, and a mid '50s Western Auto Wizard 10 hp outboard made
by Mercury.
I got my first engine when I was ten years old. It was a Toro mower that I found
in an alley. The carb was clogged up and the gas tank was rusted through. My dad
showed me how to clean out the carb and he made a tank from an old cut off beer
can (back when they were made of steel). It didn't hold much, so I had to re-fill
it a lot. Here it is nearly 35 years later and I still have some of the first
engines that I acquired and I'm still looking for more!
I appreciate the work and efforts that you have invested in this venture.
