That Briggs magneto system is super reliable with the exception of the condensor. If you lack a coil,condenor tester buy a condensor and try it. The chances of a bad coil are about 10%. A condensor about 50/50. Make sure the points are nice and clean, gapped to .020" and actually making ontact when closed. Condensor part # is 29861.Get at a dealer or NAPA. Coil to flywheel gap is .010".
