Pictures of my Page garden tractor one as found , one after restoration.
I don't know what year it is but the model
19 Briggs on it was made in March 1960. I had to replace the differential in
it ,as a previouse owner decided to use grease instead of 90 weight oil. All
but two of the gears had lost teeth and all the brass bearings were shot. It
would have cost a few thousand dollars to have them made. I spent three
months checking out any possibility of getting some made or finding a stock
donner rear end with no luck. I live in Va. and found the tractor in Maine
while home visiting my dad and just had to have it. My dad eventually found
another worm gear differential with the same gear ratio that could be
modified and used. The tractor was parked becouse of the rear end and so the
engine was in good shape. The exhaust valve was stuck open from sitting for
20 years but not damaged. I pulled the whole engine and the rest of the
tractor apart and did the usual clean and lap the valves , clean the piston
and rings , head , etc , and did the above mentioned rear end job. It had
been painted a dark green all over. This was borring to me so I gave it a
coat of Oliver green and highlighted it with John Deer yellow. It runs and
pulls extreamly well . It has a 18.7 : 1 ratio in the rear end alone counting
the differential and the gear reduction cases on both sides. The engine fired
up on the first pull. It has a belt shive behind the pull rope cone on the
front of the engine and one on the clutch hub similar to a fifties
simplicity. It has the same 3 speed tranny as a fifties simplicity ,
including the same casting numbers. It's a blast to play with and plow the
garden with. I'm looking forward to taking it to the engine shows and using
it to move my 3hp Sattley around with.
Model NP Briggs with a factory mounted Goulds centrifigal pump. According
to the numbers it was made in Jan. 1950. It's a runner but needs rings and
valve work. I have seen these all the way up to 12 hp . I believe this to
be the smallest unit in the line. This and other units were used on farms
to irrigate (and irritate) fields using clear water. The brass pump impellers
didn't like gravel and rocks. I found some in this pump but fortunately the
impeller still had all its blades.
Lawson model RLC298-4 .
This was used on an industrial washing machine . I was told by a fellow at
Bob's small engine that this model was only made one year and used on small
garden equipment as well as washing machines. He didn't tell me what year
though. The Zenith carb on it was also made one year and specifically for this
engine , so he says , as he tells me he has three to replace it at $60.00 a
piece . Didn't buy one as this is the sweetest running little engine you
could ask for.
1929 model 92-m Maytag and fountain.
I took this and the Page tractor and my Sattley 3hp
flywheel engine to the Reidsville Nc. show this year and the fountain drew
all the attention of the three.
