old motor what was it used for?

I received this motor with a box of stuff
from my Father in law when he passed
and no one knows what it was used for.
I know it's a motor of some sort but for what?
I'd like to sell it at my garage sale but I need to know what it was used for and what it's worth...
Can anyone please help me out here?
